World Travel To The ABC Islands

The island is also a very popular destination for water sports and even hosts a windsurfing competition each year. Aruba is not all glitz and glamour, however. A large amount of the island is devoted to the Arikok National Park which is home to some of the most beautiful flora and fauna in the entire Caribbean. All of these attributes contribute to its nearly one million visitors each year.

On the other end of the spectrum is the island of Bonaire which is the least developed of the islands. Its primary attractions are the coral filled waters and marine park. The marine park was designated around 25 years ago to preserve the reef for the enjoyment of the scuba divers and snorkelers. There are no less than sixty official dive sites around the island of Bonaire that are explored by over half of the islands yearly visitors. In addition to the marine park, Bonaire is known as a top bird watching location. Over 200 species of birds can be regularly found on this lush island.

Curacao is the largest of the islands within the Netherlands Antilles and it lies between Aruba and Bonaire in the Caribbean Sea. The capital city of Willemstad shows visible signs of the island's rich history through its vibrantly painted buildings that have a heavy Dutch colonial influence. The island is full of history, boasting the oldest operating Hebrew Synagogue in the western hemisphere. This island is not only rich in history, but also in cultural diversity. While walking the streets of Curacao, you may hear any of four different languages being spoken fluently, Dutch, English, Spanish, and the local Papiamentu. This diversity is also found frequently in the cuisine to settle some of the most unique palates around. Curacao is possibly the most down to earth of the three ABC islands with is normal day to day life of the natives.
