Stay Healthy During Your World Travel

If you have ever been on a long vacation, you have probably gotten sick at least for some portion of that vacation. Being ill is especially bad if you are traveling abroad because you do not know any doctors in the area and if you are in a foreign speaking country, finding the right over the counter medications could be next to impossible. Illnesses are traditionally brought on by stress or fatigue, but can also be triggered by certain foods or water in foreign countries. Below is a list of tips to help you stay healthy during world travel. Heeding these, along with some additional tips that you may pick up along the way, will help insure that you will stay healthy during your world travel vacation.

Take heed of these items for the flight to your destination. Before you leave home for your long flight, make sure to drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated. This is also a good tip for the flight home, but only if you are in a country where drinking the water is safe. If you get motion sick easily, you should wear ear plugs and sunglasses to help shield your eyes from the bright lights which occasionally contribute to people's sicknesses. Avoid junk foods on your flight. If you feel that you will need to bring a snack, bring fruit or cheese and crackers. The excess sugars from candy and salt from salty junk food could lead to dehydration. Make sure that you wear comfortable clothes and shoes for your flights. If you are going to be traveling across an ocean by plane, you are going to be there a while and will want to be comfortable.

While on your trip, you can heed some of the suggestions of the plane ride such as drinking plenty of fluids. In countries where the water is acceptable to drink, make sure you have plenty of it. Likely on a vacation, you will be doing more walking and traveling that normal, and your body will likely need more hydration than normal. Also, take extra care of your neck and back on your trip. If you have a sensitive neck, you may want to pack your own pillow. Having a stiff neck is sure to ruin a day, especially when you are traveling and trying to look at sights.

Avoid eating heavy meals, especially when you will be doing more traveling. It is better to have more numerous, smaller meals when you are going to be traveling the countryside or relaxing on a beach than to have a huge meal, creating an unsettled stomach. Take along simple over the counter medications such as antacids and headache remedies as allowed by your destination country. Also, make sure that you take things like lotion and lip balm with you on your vacation. Different climates and atmosphere can wreak havoc on your skin, so keep it moisturized.

Get plenty of rest. It is hard to have lots of rest when traveling, especially to a place that you have never visited, but rest is key to your ability to stay healthy during your world travel holiday.
