Broaden Your Horizons Through World Travel

If you have always said that you need to "get out more" and experience more of what there is to offer, there are several ways of achieving this goal. Joining local clubs and organizations as well as getting involved in community service projects is one way to experience more of life. Traveling to another state and visiting some of the wonderful sights that America has to offer is a great way to expound on your knowledge. But I would say that the easiest way for you to broaden your horizons is through world travel. The thought of traveling the world may frighten you, and it may seem like it would never be possible for you, but if you check into some of the more popular tourist destinations, you will find that it is easier to become a world traveler than you once thought.

If you have never left your home state, or even if you have, you can broaden your horizons by traveling parts of the world that are easily accessible from the United States. Take Canada for example. The culture of Canada, in some areas, is vastly different from the culture here in the US. Some parts of Canada are French speaking and have a major French influence. Visiting the northern parts of Canada will put you more in tune with the colder climate and show you things that you likely have never seen such as large icebergs and polar bears.

Traveling to Mexico from America is fairly easy as well. If you live in the southwest, you may have possibly been to Mexico before for a day trip or just overnight. Crossing the border was once easier than it is now, but it is still possible for someone to cross the border for a meal or a day of sightseeing. In Mexico, you will notice that people live much differently than we do here in the US. The customs are very different, the ways of life are not very similar, and the view and terrain are not common of the sights of the United States.

Traveling across an ocean will really give you a broadening of your horizons. The customs and destinations in Europe, although similar to American, are different in many ways. Also, the country of England alone has so many tourist attractions that offer more history than we could fathom here in the United States. There are homes in England that are older than the oldest building standing in the US. There is a family of Royalty that is prominent in that country, something that we have never known here. In Europe, there are attractions from the Roman Coliseum to the Chunnel (the tram running underneath the English Channel) that we are ignorant to in this country.

Traveling to a place like Japan is a great culture shock to the westerners of this country, especially if you are from a smaller town or rural areas of the country. There are places in Japan that are so congested that you cannot walk down the street without rubbing elbows with one hundred different people. The country of Japan is very technologically advanced, far beyond this country.

In essence, it is easy to broaden your horizons through world travel if you just set your mind to do so.
